Expansion and complete renovation during ongoing business

Subcontractor, commercial transactions and management

Optimising the functional requirements and architectonic visions to create a feasible building is our central goal. A good example of this is the Zugerland shopping centre, whose opening in 1979 was celebrated as a great success. Since time has left its mark and customers’ needs have changed, a plan was drawn to create an attractive centre mix while doubling the space available. The Zugerland shopping mall is easy to reach by public and private transport, buses, the S-Bahn and cars all running right to the door. This was another reason behind the decision to extend the popular centre on its present site. The renovation created around 100 new jobs, to bring the total Zugerland workforce up to almost 500.
In 1995 the Migros Cooperative of Lucerne commissioned us to enlarge and renovate the shopping centre without interruptions to business. The ground and first floors were enlarged by around 18%. Over the extended upper storey, a further floor was planned whose roof would house the new control centres. The core of the entirely new centre is a mall on three levels measuring 110 m long and 17 m wide with skylights providing natural light. The new main entrances with their incisive projecting façade canopies are visible from afar.
The building’s appealing façade is made up of 600 panes each measuring 2.80 m by 2.80 m. It is fascinating to watch how the changing daylight is reflected by the “mood” of the glass. The new parking garage with its pair of exposed concrete ramps and façade of stainless steel mesh has been integrated to create a homogeneous and yet varied whole with a unique character. Building the new garage involved renaturing approx. 4,000 m² of asphalting and the creation of a large green space. That make ecological sense since it creates the area needed to absorb the roof water in a natural way.
