Complete Renovation of School and Sports Centre

Immediately next to Escher-Wyss-Platz in Zurich, S+M Architekten in collaboration with general contractor Karl Steiner AG in 1975 built the school building for KVZ. A quarter of a century later, it was high time for renovations. Windows that can be opened was one improvement to be made and instead of the existing full air conditioning, modern ventilation systems were installed and with them operating costs reduced. An ecological and energy-related improvement was also called for – and achieved through the installation of 12-centimetre-thick heat insulation . People these days are very attentive to the return on their investments, which is why they want convincing and yet uncomplicated solutions. Altogether, 5,400 m² of façade, windows and blinds were replaced. The façade’s appearance was only minimally changed and its aesthetic quality retained. In 2004, an attractive multimedia resource centre was built on 480 m² and the staff room completely renewed. Today the KV Zurich Business School and Sports Centre appears in new splendour.
